KrowdFit Fitness Tracking Integrations
KrowdFit is directly integrated with several fitness tracking platforms. The direct integrations are Fitbit, Garmin, and Misfit. We are also integrated with the Apple Health and Google Fit health kits which allow us to receive data from several devices and apps which also store information in those platforms. Each integrated partner comes with its own nuance.
- Fitbit is a complete stack. If you use the Free Fitbit app coupled with your Fitbit fitness tracker and smartphone this application will track Sleep, Meals, Steps and Active minutes. One thing to know, we only receive device reported steps and activity, the Fitbit app allows users to “log” a workout or a walk which will show as both steps and activity minutes in the Fitbit app. However, KrowdFit will only receive the number the tracking device records separately.
- The Fitbit app is free and can be used to log meals without a tracker
- The Fitbit app might recognize your phone as a fitness tracker
- Misfit will track Steps, and Sleep.
- To get meals and activity the member will need to connect their Phone and a compatible app, users might use the free Fitbit app, or Apple Health or Google Fit depending on their platform.
- Garmin will track steps, activity and sleep.
- To get meals the member will need to connect their phone and a compatible app, users might use the free Fitbit app, or Apple Health or Google Fit depending on their platform.
- Apple Health If the user is an iOS user. The phone will track Steps and Activity as long as the phone is worn during exercise.
- For meals the user will need to connect MyFitnessPal or LoseIT and grant it permission to write to Apple Health.
- For Sleep the user will need to connect Pillow, Sleep Cycle or Sleep ++ and grant it permission to write to Apple Health.
- Once the various counters are writing data to Apple Health and the KrowdFit app is installed and connected then data should flow. It is important to understand the Apple apps must be running in order to communicate. Users who “flick” away apps and close them will not get data until the app is opened again.
- Each time you open the KrowdFit app it looks to “refresh” the data from Apple Health. KrowdFit can look back 48 hours to get data. The best case is to check both your Apple Health and your KrowdFit app daily.
- Google Fit on Android devices. The phone will track steps and activity as long as it is being worn during exercise.
- For meals the user will need to connect LoseIT and grant it permission to write to Google Fit or use the free Fitbit app as a meal tracker.
- For Sleep the only app I believe works is Android Sleep
- Once the various counters are connected and working and you can see their data in Google Fit you sign into KrowdFit with a browser and navigate to Settings > Fitness Trackers to connect your Google Fit account. With Google the data comes in sometimes 8-12 hours delayed but the user can force a sync anytime from the trackers page.
Troubleshooting Apple Health
There are a couple of things to check for if your Apple device appears to stop syncing data with KrowdFit.
1. First check the KrowdFit app. It needs to be installed and needs to be running or in the background to communicate with Apple Health and with the KrowdFit servers. If you are just opening the app you may need to wait a few minutes before data is visible.
2. Second check that KrowdFit is listed as a source in the Apple Health app. Do this by opening Apple Health and selecting the "Sources" tab at the bottom. KrowdFit should be listed as an App on this screen.
a. If KrowdFit is a source, select the app name from the list to view it's permissions. We will need permission to read the data stored in Apple Health.
b. If KrowdFit is not listed as a source it could be because of a recent update or a new phone. In this case you will need to uninstall and reinstall the KrowdFit App.
Apple Health is a data repository apps are given permission to read and write from. In the case of KrowdFit we read data from the various Sleep, Meals, Steps, and activity stores in Apple Health. Steps and Activity come from the phone (or Watch if you have one) Meals and Sleep need third party apps to create data and write it to Apple Health.
For Meals:
- Open Apple Health
- Navigate to Nutrition
- Select Dietary energy
- Select data sources and access
- This screen should have a list of apps which have permission to read from and write to Apple Health.
- If you can't you might need to go to your Meal tracking app to establish a connection
- KrowdFit should be listed as having permission to read
- Your meal tracking app should have permission to write
- If either of the above are not true you should be able to enable them from this screen.
For Sleep:
- Open Apple Health
- Navigate to Sleep
- Select Sleep Analysis
- Select data sources and access
- This screen should have a list of apps which have permission to read from and write to Apple Health.
- If you can't you might need to go to your Sleep tracking app to establish a connection.
- KrowdFit should be listed as having permission to read
- Your sleep tracking app should have permission to write
- If either of the above are not true you should be able to enable them from this screen.
Troubleshooting Google Fit
KrowdFit is able to read data from Google Fit. You'll first need to make sure you have Google Fit on your Android device and that your phone or tracking apps are working with Google Fit and have permissions to share. After that you can connect your Google account to KrowdFit through the Fitness Trackers page or contact support.
One thing you should know, Google does not currently notify us when new data is available. We check periodically throughout the day but data may be up to 24 hours delayed. You can force a sync more often if you like by going to the Settings > Fitness trackers page and sync the day on the Google Fit section.
